Four Registration Options

Depending your student status, at Brighten Language Center (BLC) we have four registration options: Please see which one of the four categories listed below best applies to you, then go to the section that describes the appropriate registration process. If you need additional assistance, please call our office and speak with one of our student-service representatives. 

  1. International Students that are currently oversees seeking an F1 Student Visa (I-20)
  2. Transfer Students that are seeking to transfer to BLC from another school in the U.S. 
  3. Tourist Students visiting the U.S. on a tourist visa wanting to attend BLC for less than 3 months. 
  4. Permanent Resident (Green Card) or U.S. Citizen Students who want to study full time at BLC.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students that are currently oversees applying for a F1 Student Visa

If you’re currently not in the U.S. and plan to study full time (more than 3 months) in the U.S., you will need to complete the four steps listed below. Details of each step are provided following the list.  If you happen to have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to call us and we would be happy to help you.


Step 1: Apply to Brighten Language Center (BLC)

Step 2: Send BLC the required documents 

Step 3: Receive I-20 (Student Visa)

Step 4: Interview at US Embassy or Consulate


Step 1: Complete BLC’s Application Form. You do not need to complete the Enrollment Agreement Form at this point, only the BLC Application Form. You will receive an e-mail confirmation from us that we reviewed your application and we will typically contact you by the next business day.


Step 2:  While you’re waiting to hear back from us, you can start preparing the required documents. Below is a detailed list of these documents:

  • A copy of the first page of your passport with your photo
  • Proof that you have the financial assets to support yourself. You can bring in either of the following: A bank statement verifying you have over $12,000 USD in your account. Or an Affidavit of Financial Support form filled out by a friend or family member. Your friend or family member will also need to provide a bank statement to prove that they have over $12,000 USD in their account.  
  • BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form. You can find this on our website: click Enrollment Agreement
  • Be prepared to pay a $175 non-refundable application fee. Payment Options: You may pay by credit card using the Credit Card Authorization form.  Or you may do a wire transfer. Please contact us for wire-transfer details.
  • Once you have the documents and forms filled out, attach them to an email and send them to your student representative at:  info@BrightenLanguageCenter.com


Step 3: After received all the required documents listed above, along with the $175 application fee, we will send you a confirmation e-mail letting you know that we received the required documents and that we are reviewing your application for acceptance and approval. We will then mail you the acceptance letter and I-20 form to your designated address. There is a mandatory $50 express delivery fee. We use DHL or any other reputable international delivery services. This is for your protection and to make sure these important document are received in a timely manner.


Step 4:  Once you receive the BLC Acceptance letter and I-20 form from us, you will need to schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the country where you live. This is a very important and mandatory step, check appointment waiting time and interview details with your local US Embassy.

  • Note: be prepared to pay the following two fees before your U.S. Embassy Interview appointment:
  • $200 non-refundable SEVIS fee (Form I-901). This fee may be paid by going to the Department of Homeland Security website and submitting the Form I-901 .  
  • $160 non-refundable visa application fee (Form DS-160). This fee may be paid by going to the U.S. State Departments website at: DS-160: Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application
  • Print completed forms and save them for the interview.

Preparing for the interview. Bring the following Items with you:

  • Passport (valid for at least six months)
  • An original copy of your Form I-20 (sign the form, under Item 11)
  • BLC’s Acceptance and admissions letter
  • Completed visa application (DS-160). This is the form you completed in Step 4, you will need to bring the printed copy to the interview.
  • Receipt for the visa application fee (DS-160). This is the form you completed in Step 4, you will need to bring the printed copy to the interview
  • Receipt for the $200 SEVIS fee (I-901). This is the form you completed in Step 4; you will need to bring the printed copy to the interview.
  • Financial evidence showing you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition and living expenses for the period you intend to study in the U.S. 
  • Information to demonstrates your intention to return to your home country after finishing your studies in the U.S. This may include proof of property, family, or other ties to your community. You will also want to explain why studying English in the U.S. will help you with your future career and academic goals.
  • Note: This is a very important interview, dress appropriately. Business attire is highly encouraged. Be polite and courteous during the interview.

After the Interview: Once you complete the interview you can follow up by checking status of your application via the U.S. Department of State’s Visa Status Check 

Once your Visa is approved: When you have confirmation that your visa is approved, please contact BLC to make travel and lodging arrangements. We will also schedule your first visit at BLC to schedule a placement exam appointment, register for classes and pay tuition.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transferring students to Brighten Language Center

Transfer students that are seeking to transfer to BLC from another school in the U.S.

This is a 2-step process, please follow the steps below to complete the application process:


Step 1: Schedule Interview with BLC and Prepare Documents

  • Complete the BLC Application form and the BLC Transfer Student form. You will receive an e-mail confirmation from us indicating that we received your application, and we will typically contact you by the next business day to schedule an appointment. website. 
  • Complete the BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form. You can find this on our website: click Enrollment Agreement
  • A copy of your I-20 form from your current school.
  • Copies of first page of your passport including your picture and also a copy of the page that shows your visa.
  • Copy of your I-94. Click the link below for more information on I-94 https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/consent.html
  • Proof that you have the financial assets to support yourself. Bring with you either of the following: A bank statement verifying you have over $8,000 USD in your account. Or, an Affidavit of Financial Support form filled out by a friend or family member . Your friend or family member will also need to provide a bank statement showing that they have over $8,000 USD in their account. You can find the Financial Support form on our website. 


Step 2: Interview Appointment with BLC Enrollment Services

  • Bring the documents you prepared in Step 1. We can also help you complete the required documents during that appointments. Our friendly staff will also take you on a tour to show you the classrooms, labs and introduce you to the BLC family.
  • Be prepared to pay a $175 non-refundable application fee.
  • Application fee payment options: You may pay by credit card using the Credit Card Authorization form on our website, or with a personal check or money order. You may also do a wire transfer. Please contact us for wire transfer details.

Once we have all the documents listed above, our enrollment services staff will send your transfer-in form to your current school to ask them to release your records. Once your records have been released and the transfer process is complete, BLC will issue you a new I-20 form. At this point you will be contacted by our staff to schedule an appointment for you to receive your I-20 form and placement exam. You may then register for classes and pay your tuitio

PERMANENT RESIDENT STUDENTS

Permanent resident or U.S. citizen

Permanent resident (Green Card) or U.S. citizen students who want to study full time at BLC.

If you are a permanent U.S. resident (Green Card) or U.S. Citizen (U.S. Passport) you are welcome to attend Brighten Language Center’s (BLC's) English as a Secondary Language (ESL) program. Please complete the following three step process:

Step 1: Schedule Campus Tour and complete the appropriate documents 

  •  Complete the online BLC Application Form.  You will receive an e-mail confirmation from us that we received your application and we will typically contact you by the next business day to schedule an appointment.
  • Be prepared to bring with you your U.S. passport or permanent resident card. Also bring a completed BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form to the appointment. You can find the enrollment application on our website. 

Step 2: Campus Tour and Enrollment

  • Bring your U.S. passport or permanent U.S. resident card. Also bring copy of the first page of your passport with your picture on it, or a copy of your permanent U.S. resident card. 
  • Bring the completed BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form to the appointment. Our friendly staff can also help you complete the enrollment form during this appointment if needed.
  • Be prepared to pay a $175 non-refundable application fee.
  • Payment Options: You can pay by credit card using the Credit Card Authorization form, or with a personal check or money order. You may also do a wire transfer. Please contact us for wire transfer details.

Step 3: Application Review and register for classes

  • Once BLC’s staff has reviewed your enrollment form and approved it, You will be contacted for a placement exam appointment. During this time, you will also register for classes and pay tuition fees. 

TOURIST STUDENTS

Tourist students visiting the U.S. for less than 3 months

If you are in the U.S. on a Tourist Visa, you are allowed to study at Brighten Language Center (BLC) as long as it is less than 18 hours per week and less than 90 days (less than 3 months). To complete this type of student application, please follow the three steps below:


Step 1: Schedule campus tour and complete the appropriate documents 

  • Complete the online BLC Application Form. You will receive an e-mail confirmation from us that we received your application and we will typically contact you by the next business day to schedule an appointment.
  • Be prepared to bring your passport and completed BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form to the appointment.  

Step 2: Campus tour and enrollment

  • Bring your passport and a copy of the first page with your picture on it
  • Bring the completed BLC Student Enrollment Agreement Form. Note: Our friendly staff can also help you to complete the enrollment form during this appointment if needed.
  • Be prepared to pay a $175 non-refundable application fee.
  • Payment Options: You can pay by credit card using the Credit Card Authorization form, or with a personal check or money order. You may also do a wire transfer. Please contact us for wire transfer details.

Step 3: Application review and register for classes

  • Once BLC’s staff has reviewed your enrollment form and approved it. You will be contacted for a placement exam appointment. During this time, you will also register for a class and pay tuition fees. 
  • Keep in mind you may only attend BLC for less than 18 hours per week and for less than 90 days (less than 3 months).

APPLICATION AND ENROLLMENT FORMS

To start your enrollment, complete the  BLC Application Form.  Note: you do not need to complete the Enrollment Agreement Form until later in your enrollment process. Use either the PDF file or DOCX file (Microsoft Word) whichever works best with your computer system.
